Ghana’s economy grows 6.5 percent in 2019

Ghana’s economy grew by 6.5 percent in 2019, compared with the 6.3 percent recorded in 2018, the Ghana Statistical Service has said.

Services recorded the highest sector growth rate of 7.6 percent, followed by industry and agriculture.

“Besides, services remained the largest sector with its share in the national account increasing from 46.3 percent in 2018 to 47.2 percent in 2019. It also contributed 2.8 percentage points to the overall national growth rate of 6.5 percent,” said Samuel Kobina Annim, a government statistician.

Faced with the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Bank of Ghana also said it expects the impact of the COVID-19 to slash growth to below 2.5 percent in 2020.
