Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun (born 16 July 1990), known professionally as Wizkid, is a Nigerian artist and lyricist.
He started recording music at the age of 11 and worked with the musical band Glorious Five.
Wizkid signed a recording deal with Realm Mates Amusement (E.M.E) in 2009.
He rose to fame after releasing “Holla at Your Boy”, which gained him a big deal with Recording label Geniuses (2011).
“Bother Me/Bad Folks”, “Do not Gloomy”, “Cherish My Child”, “Pakurumo” and “Oluwa Lo Ni” were singles he released from the Genius collection deals.
In February 2014, Wizkid was the only Nigerian performer to have over one million supporters on Twitter.
Ayo, his biggest album, was released in September 2014.
It was supported by six singles: “Jaiye Jaiye”, “On Beat Your Matter”, “One Address”, “Delight”, “Bombay” show You the Money”.
Wizkid left E.M.E after his contract expired.
Wizkid established his label Starboy Entertainment in March 2013. He revealed to Yvonne Ekwere of Silverbird Television that he planned on signing new acts to the label
On 5 January 2015, Wizkid released the music video for “Ojuelegba”, a song that highlights the struggles he endured in the early years of his recording career.
In April 2015, both Wizkid and Chris Brown performed “African Bad Gyal” at Brown’s concert in Durban, South Africa.
Wizkid released “Expensive Shit”, an Afrobeats song built on light guitars, saxophone lines and acoustic percussion in May 2015; the song was reported as being a likely inclusion on the album.
